Shortage in Skilled Workers Creating More Jobs than Candidates

Engineering, hospitality and tourism positions top the list of New Zealand industries having problems filling vacancies where skilled staff – both managers and workers – are a scarcity.

Employers and recruiters say that managers in the engineering, cafe and restaurant sectors are in the fastest-growing sector of demand. Professional positions that are short on skilled staff are those in the occupational and environmental health fields; and actuarial, mathematic and statistical positions are also difficult to fill.
